Urban Lighting owner Tim Jackson was featured in the Retail Spotlight of enLIGHTenment magazine’s January 2017 issue. In an article titled, “The Curator of Cool,” author Linda Longo profiles Jackson, his background in the industry, and Urban Lighting’s rise to success. According to Longo, “Visitors from all over the world come to Tim Jackson of Urban Lighting in San Diego for his carefully chosen selection of contemporary lamps and fixtures.”
Tim Jackson’s experience in the industry goes back to his high school days, where he helped out his mother at a lighting store in California. He went on to work with various showrooms before serving as the VP/Sales & Showroom Operations for Ron Rezek at Highlights in San Diego. In 2004, Jackson and his husband/business partner bought the showroom from Rezek and changed the name to Urban Lighting in 2006.
Today, you can find Tim Jackson and the Urban Lighting showroom in San Diego’s historic Gaslamp Quarter. According to Jackson, clients are split between architects, designers, and residential customers. “I want to carry products from manufacturers who take care of their showrooms,” he says. Urban Lighting is the repeat recipient of the “Favorite Shopping – Home Décor” award by the Gaslamp Quarter Association, a non-profit trade organization representing the 400 businesses in the area.
